Job Summary
The Activities Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing engaging recreational and social activities for residents in assisted living, senior care, and long-term care settings. This role aims to enhance the quality of life for residents through meaningful interactions and experiences that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being. The Activities Director will collaborate with staff, families, and community resources to ensure a vibrant and supportive environment.

 

Duties

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program tailored to the interests and needs of residents.
  • Coordinate event planning for various recreational activities, including arts and crafts, games, outings, and special events.
  • Manage schedules effectively to ensure a diverse range of activities are available throughout the week.
  • Facilitate memory care programs that support cognitive engagement for residents with memory impairments.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and social workers to assess residents' needs and preferences regarding activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of participation in activities and evaluate the effectiveness of programs regularly.
  • Train and supervise volunteers or activity aides to assist with program delivery.
  • Foster a welcoming atmosphere that encourages resident participation and social interaction.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in assisted living, senior care, or home community care settings is preferred.
  • Strong skills in schedule management and event planning are essential.
  • Background in recreational therapy or social work is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of memory care principles and practices is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with residents, families, and staff members.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
  • Compassionate approach towards seniors with diverse needs in long-term care or nursing home environments.
